Mice and Rats Got Into 15.7 Million American Homes in a Single Year

It isn't a dirty-house problem. A house built before 1940 gets mice about six times as often as a new one.

Once the nights turn cold, one slips in through a gap the size of a dime, by the pipes under the sink.

Then it finds the scent trail the last one left, and follows it straight to your pantry.

You hear it first, scratching inside the wall behind your bed at 2 a.m.

Then it's droppings in the drawer with the forks you eat with, and a chewed corner on the bag of flour.

And from then on, you check the counter every morning before you make your coffee.

Four photos: droppings in a silverware drawer, a chewed flour bag, a gnawed gap by the pipe under the sink, a nest in a basement box. A mouse peeks out of the hole by the pipe.

Why Do the Mice Keep Coming Back?

Because every mouse leaves a scent trail behind, and the next one follows it right back in.

A trap can catch the one in your kitchen, but its trail stays there for the next.

Steel wool plugs one hole, but an old house has dozens, and they find the next.

Poison can send one off to die inside your wall, where you smell it for a week.

An exterminator puts down bait, sends a bill, and by next fall they're back.

Peppermint cotton balls dry out in days, sprays are gone by morning, and bags fade without you smelling it, but the mice can.

An ultrasonic plug-in beeps away for months while the mice get used to it.

So the mint has to be there every night, at full strength, wherever they run.

A mint bag on a pantry shelf with fresh droppings on it and around it. A live mouse sniffs the bag, right beside it.

Introducing MintKeep, the Peppermint Plug-In That Turns Mice Back

MintKeep in the palm of a hand by a kitchen window, a spare refill on the sill.

So we built MintKeep to keep the mint there.

It plugs in like a night-light and sends peppermint down to the floor where mice run.

Mice find their way by smell, and strong mint stings their noses, so they turn back.

That's why your peppermint seemed to work for a night or two, while it was strong. Then it faded.

MintKeep keeps it that strong every night: the Mint Line™, the line they won't cross, so you stop finding droppings and hearing them at night.

The mint sits sealed in a glass bottle and feeds out through a wick, so it stays strong all month, and the next bottle comes before it runs low.

How the Scratching Stops After You Plug It In

The first night, the mint fills the room, right down to the floor where they run.

Mice find their way by smell, along the trails the last ones left. Strong mint drowns out that smell, so the trail back in goes cold.

A mouse that comes looking runs into the mint, turns around and goes to find a place that doesn't smell of it.

On the plan, the next refill is at your door before the old one runs low, so the line never weakens and the scratching doesn't come back.

And because nothing dies, there's never a body to find, in a trap or in the wall.

“I've been battling mice in our country home for 25 years. Every fall it's traps under the sink and droppings in the silverware drawer. I put one in the kitchen and one in the basement this year. Haven't seen a mouse or heard a scratch since, and this is when they always come in.”

“Since my husband passed it's just me in this old house. Last fall I heard one in the wall by my bed, and I slept with the lights on and a towel under the door for a week. My son plugged one in my bedroom and one in the kitchen when he came up. I haven't heard a thing in that wall since.”

“We got to Mom's after midnight for Thanksgiving and found droppings in her bathroom. She's 81, she loves that house, and she won't touch a trap. I set them up in her kitchen, her bedroom and the basement before we left. She called last week just to tell me she hasn't found a single dropping. I can breathe again.”

Grandmothers Planted Mint Along the Foundation for a Good Reason

Mint growing thick along the stone foundation by an old farmhouse back door.

“...my mother had mint planted around our house, right against the foundation to keep mice out.”

A homeowner on Reddit, remembering her mother's house

“Mice hate mint and they do not cross the invisible line.”

MintKeep brings that line inside, so the mice stay out of the rooms you live in.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is it safe with my dog or cat?

There's no poison and no trap, so there's no bait for a pet to eat and no trap to catch a paw. Dogs are fine with the peppermint smell; if yours chews, plug it in behind a chair or a dresser. Cats are more sensitive to peppermint oil, so keep MintKeep out of the room where your cat sleeps or eats, and leave a door open so she can walk away from the smell.

Does it work on rats too?

Yes. Rats find their way by smell along trails, just like mice, so a strong line of mint turns them back too. Rats usually come in low, through the garage or the basement, so start with one there.

What about the mice already in my walls?

They come out into your rooms every night, because that's where the food is. When every room stings with mint, they back off hungry, and a mouse that can't get to food leaves to find a house where it can. Nothing dies, so none of them rot inside your walls.

How soon does it start working?

The mint starts feeding out the minute you plug it in, and by that first night the room smells of it, so the next mouse that comes up the trail runs right into it.

Won't they just get used to it?

A beeper makes the same sound every night, and mice learn it can't hurt them. Mint stings their noses every single time, the way ammonia stings yours, so there's nothing to get used to. What they do slip past is mint that's gone weak, which is why a fresh refill comes before the old one runs low.

Won’t they just move to another room?

They can, if that room has no mint. So put one in each room they've been using. The more of their rooms smell of mint, the fewer places they have left to go.

How many do I need?

One for each room where you hear them or find droppings, including the room where they get in, often the basement or the garage. Most homes start with three: the kitchen, the bedroom and the basement.

How often do I change the refill?

About once a month. On the plan, your next refill comes to your door every 28 days, before the old one runs low, so you never have to remember to order. Skip or cancel anytime.

Will my house smell like peppermint?

Yes, a light peppermint smell when you walk into the room, a lot nicer than the smell mice leave behind. After a day or two you stop noticing it. To a mouse's nose it's far stronger, and that's the whole point.

Can I use it in my car or camper?

It plugs into a regular wall outlet, so it works in the garage where your car is parked, and in a camper that's hooked up to power. It doesn't go inside the car itself.

Will it work in an old house?

Yes. Old houses are where mice get in most, through stone basements, drafty floors and gaps around the pipes. That's why it goes in each room they use, not just by the door.

What if I change my mind?

You have 90 days to decide, for any reason, and you get every penny back.

Why can’t I buy this on Amazon or eBay?

We sell direct so we can promise real MintKeep, the full 90-day guarantee and this price.
